HEARTBEAT- The Royal"The Royal" - The new prime time television drama series, a spin-off from the popular ITV drama series Heartbeat aired it's first episode on sunday evening 19th January 2003 and managed an audience of 11.3 million! Set in the 1960's, The Royal was filmed on location in Scarborough, Whitby and the surrounding areas. The drama centres round the fictional St Aiden's Royal Free Hospital and a distinctive looking building on Holbeck Road, Scarborough, was used for the exterior shots of the building, while the interior shots are filmed in a studio in Bradford. - click to enlarge photo's -
Viewers got a glimpse of the Royal - and Scarborough - in last Sunday's episode of Heartbeat, when the action switched to the cottage hospital. The filming of Heartbeat in and around Goathland has made the area a real draw for visitors and it seems that filming of The Royal is expected to attract more visitors to the seaside towns of Scarborough and Whitby. Theme Music:
Like 'Heartbeat', the 'Royal'
has a catchy theme song. The band is called 'The Spencer Davis
Group' and the track they sing 'Somebody Help Me' was a number one UK hit, released in March of 1966. Directions to "The Royal"
